May our eyes see Your return

How can one regret
something we've never encountered before?

We have never experienced the Temple.
We have never seen it with our own eyes
the revelation of the divine Presence in Jerusalem.

Reason demands:
How can we desire what we have never known?

But the truth is deeper than reason.
Inner desire is stronger than logic.

There is a sense of nostalgia.
that which is not born of memory,
but from the root.

"May our eyes see Your return"
is a prayer passed down through generations:

to see, with our own physical eyes,
Your great and holy return to Jerusalem,
towards the Temple.

Not just knowledge.
Not just believing.

To be there.
To be a part of it.

And to see this immense and overwhelming thing
to happen before our very eyes.
